LVR NEWS BITS August 23, LVR Open All Around Event, La Salle Stables, Lompoc. The biggest & best yet! The several lead line kids were so serious, so funny, so cute, that Judge Debbie Pearson could not decide who was best – so they all got blue ribbons! You should’ve seen the smiles! We were gratified to see so many kids & adults filling all the classes! Hi Point awards went to Horse/Rider pair who entered the 4 classes in each age division. Hi Point Winners were: Walk/Trot 17&under – Grace Chang; W/T 18 & Over – Cheryl Calentine; 12 & Under – Nico Menjivar; 13-17 Katie Barker; 18 & Over – tie breaker between Kim Gahan & Casey Fowler..going to Casey! It was a big success & a lot of fun. Many thanks to Christa & Corey Wallace who worked hard to organize the event. Judge Debbie Pearson for donating her time for the Horse Show classes, Lompoc Pony Club who worked the cook shack & the many helpers who kept things moving!
Sunday, October 4, LVR Open Xtreme Trail Course “XTC”, Mang Ranch, Lompoc – This is our 4th year putting on this event. The idea originated from the RFD-TV’s Extreme Cowboy Race, but we have put our own spin on it. It’s a Horse Show/Natural Trail Course event – but timed! This year we have made some changes in the division classifications: First we changed “Novice” (riders were limited to 3 years) to “Amateur” which includes novice level riders (Amateurs winning 1st place must move to Open Division.) 2nd we changed Open to Pro/Am (Professionals and Advanced Amateurs). Points for the Amateur in the “Open Pro/Am” Division will count towards the Overall Non-Pro High Point Buckle Award sponsored by the Mang Family. Pro’s are not eligible for the High Point, but are eligible for the 1st Place Silver Buckle. 3rd we added a Pro/Am Jackpot Class for a Cash Award only! Points scored in this class do not go towards the High Point, but we hope will give the Pro’s (& brave Amateurs) a chance to win some money! We’re also going to change the course around & add different obstacles. For definitions & more details see the enclosed XTC Entry Form! For more info call Elly Robb 733-4040 or Shirley Leonard 937-0016.
Oct 9-12, LVR Campout at Lopez Lake – The campground has added a beautiful horse camp in the back with several corrals, trees for shade, lots of parking, etc. No full hook-ups, but water is readily available. An added benefit are all the amenities at the lake – swimming, water slides, fishing, boating, etc. PERFECT for the families (and young at heart) who come! There’s beautiful trails that aren’t really long, but have great views of the lake from the ridge tops! We’re taking early phone reservations only. Paperwork & fees to be signed & paid at the camp. Fees have been paid to hold the campsite for us. Kim Cornelia 733-4040 & Christa Wallace 717-0068 are Trail Bosses. *************************************************************************************** Board Meeting Highlights: – No Board Meeting in August. ****************************************************************************************** Other upcoming events:

SYV Therapeutic Fundraiser, Saturday, October 24, 2009 at Rancho Oso. ACTHA is a relatively new organization. Basically, riders and their horses compete on a 6-8 mile trail crossing 6-10 natural obstacles. Judges are stationed at each obstacle and points are given for horsemanship and how well the obstacles are negotiated. The competition takes 2-2˝ hours and it's NOT a race, skill is more important than speed. Go to www.ACTHA.us for more info on the organization and the rides. Click Here For Past Newsletters
